Your blog can be your lifeline to consumers in your niche market. However, having a blog isn’t enough. You have to make it something inviting, inspiring, and educational so that people will continue to look at it. As you explore these 20 reasons why readers unsubscribe from blogs, you can make sure such pitfalls aren’t in your future.

  1. Too long of a lag between posts – Readers want to stick with a blog that continues to provide them with information. If they have to wait weeks between your posts they will get tired of waiting around. Make sure you offer new information several times a week.
  2. Too many posts – On the flip side of that though you want to make sure you don’t overwhelm them with too many posts. If they log in and see pages of them since they were last there they will feel it is going to be too hard to keep up.
  3. Topics don’t relate to them – Nothing is more frustrating than reading a blog that continually is off topic. When readers don’t find the information is something they can relate to they won’t come back. You do want to branch out to various elements though for your niche market.
  4. Content is boring – You can’t just rehash what you found elsewhere on the internet and place it in your blog. Consumers need to feel that they have access to great information when the read your materials. Take a risk and be among the first share various ideas.
  5. No expertise – You have to sound confident and show that you are an expert in what you are talking about if you want people to continue read your blog.
  6. Ego – By the same token though you have to make sure your ego doesn’t get in the way. No one feels good reading a blog when someone seems to be tooting their own horn all the time.
  7. Lack of credibility – Verify information before you place it on your blog. If you put false information out there then you will loose the trust of people. They won’t find your materials to be credible so they will stop reading your blog.
  8. Vulgar language – You can really turn people off by the choice of words that you use. There are plenty of ways to express what you need to say in a blog without subjecting them to vulgarities.
  9. Too opinionated – Readers want to be able to get unbiased information from the blogs that they read. It is okay to share your opinion on some things but you can’t be doing it all the time. People want to be able to make up their own minds about subject matter.
  10. Negativity – It is nearly impossible for people to be able to feel inspired or educated from negative information. Make sure your blog is helpful and positive and that will keep readers coming back for more.
  11. Promotional instead of informative – Be careful that your blog doesn’t come across as a sales pitch. You are using it as a method of marketing but the way you do so is more of a back door approach. Don’t just condense your sales letter and place into blog messages.
  12. No replies accepted – Review the information that people post on your blog and then accept what you want to so that other people can see that feedback too. It prevents your blog from becoming one sided. Reply to some of posts too as that shows you read them and that you care about your readers.
  13. Downtime – It is frustrating to visit a blog and it is down for one reason or another. When it happens often people will just stop bothering to check it out. Make sure you have everything well maintained and that there is at least 99.9% uptime.
  14. Spelling and grammar – Make sure you proofread your blog posts before you put them out there. If they are littered with spelling and grammar mistakes then people won’t be impressed by them. They will be distracted and stop reading.
  15. Fails to stay up with current market – In any market there are trends and shifts. If the blog is still stuck on the past and not the here and now or the future then there is little overall value to the reader.
  16. It isn’t unique – Readers get tired of the same old clichés and elements over and over. If you can’t give them something fresh and unique they can’t find a reason to come back to read more.
  17. Too much information at once – Don’t give all of the scope of what you have to share at once. Feed it to them a bit at a time so that they will be inclined to come back and find out more later on.
  18. Promises that don’t materialize – Never tell your readers that you will deliver something to them and then don’t. They aren’t going to forget but it will make them lose faith in you.
  19. Jargon that isn’t specific to the niche – It is common for a niche audience to have slang and jargon that they understand. Don’t use too much of it in blogs though that can make it seem foreign and uninviting to the readers.
  20. Robotic – Your blog has to be personal in nature rather than robotic. You want to make sure you come across as a human being to keep them interested.
