Editor’s Review on 1&1 Dedicated Hosting
In this review, we will focus our attention on 1&1′s dedicated hosting plans.
What’s good about 1&1 Hosting?
- High end dedicated hosting – Not many web hosts has the scale of 1&1. This makes the company a rare gem when you need high end dedicated hosting solution. 1&1 offers 8 different dedicated hosting plans with a wide range of CPU powers(lowest Opteron 1216 with 2 GB RAM; highest 2 x Opteron 2423 with 32 GB RAM).
- Highly flexible and expandable – 1&1 offers a wide range of hosting services, this means you can downgrade or upgrade your plans without having the hassles of moving your sites (note that 1&1 also offers cloud solutions).
- Operating systems and admin tools selections – Host in either Linux or Windows environment with Parallels Plesk Panel 9 or 1&1 in house control panel.
- Advance backup/disaster recovery features – 1&1
dedicated hosting plans come with 1&1 Recovery Tool (developed in-house) and 250 GB FTP backup. - Website building tools – 1&1 provides various free web tools including chat channels, blog software, web gallery software, web database, mailing list software, custom website builder, and RSS tools.

- Free phone supports –
What’s bad about 1&1 Hosting?
- Limited IP address – All 1&1 dedicated hosting plans come with only 1 free IP address. Further more, the maximum dedicated IP adresses you can have per plan are 8.
- No live chat support – However, 1&1 does support free phone support.
- Expensive – Considering its limited bandwidth and IP offers, 1&1′s dedicated hosting plans are slightly overpriced when compared with other providers.
- Average server uptime – 1&1′s uptime record is relative poor according to most user reviews. For example the web host scored 1.2/5 in overall at ReviewCentre.com.
Detail 1&1 Uptime Review

According to uptime record at BestHostRatings.com (tracked since 27 December 2005), 1&1 uptime record in overall is 99.84%.
We are slightly disappointed with the score as we are expecting more for such a big hosting company (as most reputable hosts we tracked score 99.9% and above). Further investigation shows that 1&1 has a pretty bad reputation when it comes to server uptime record – we read tons of negative user reviews and complaints (however, do note that 1&1 has 8 millions customers).
For reference, please check the image on your right for 1&1′s server uptime for the past 7 days.
Disclaimer: We do not host any websites on 1&1 currently.
Is 1&1 Hosting Recommended?
We do not find 1&1 dedicated hosting plans outstanding. Without doubt, the web host has its competitive edges, but there are just too many obvious disadvantages that cannot be ignored. We rate 1&1 Hosting an ‘Average’.
