As it always happens with the providers offering unlimited resources, I had many downtimes with my websites sometimes couldn’t even access them. I’d grade customer support with 2 stars from 5. After some months I decided to move to EURO-SPACE which offered strictly dedicated resources with affordable price and I’ve not experienced any issues anymore. The fact is saying to avoid any ‘unlimited’ offerings and find appropriate company, which suits your needs.
iPage is one of the worst hosts I have ever used.
1. Tech/Customer Support: absolutely useless. They don’t know much about configuration, webservers in general and they are even worse when it comes to understanding content management systems like WordPress. Once they accused me of harboring adult content for the simple fact that during the course of a week I received traffic from adult sites and my visitor tracking system recorded that.
2. Reliability: inexistent. My website is down 2 to 4 hours *every other day*. I haven’t seen such persistent downtimes. When I contact support it’s always a known issue, they’re working on it but have no ETA.
3. Features: they exist. But they don’t have anything like custom php.ini (despite advertisements) or ssh access. Version control system access? They don’t even know what that is!! The selection of PHP extensions is limited and they tend to change configuration often as well as upgrade. More than one time compatibility between my apps and their services was broken due to unanounced changes in extension versions.
iPage seems incapable of efficiently resolving problems. Live chat and telephone support is worthless if it provides no help. Live chat is extremely slow, you are repeatedly asked to wait for extended periods of time. The responses are boilerplate that often do not answer the questions. My SEO Marketing Manager insisted it was imperative my company name in the title be preceded by the city I am in. The alignment would not work and part of the name ran into a picture on a Weebly drag and drop site that could not be moved. After two emails to him he passed me along to tech to fix the problem he created. After a call and three back and forth chats with tech they said it could not be done. All the while my site is up like this. My marketing manager takes no ownership for creating the problem. He ignores an email to have whoever is in charge of SEO call me. I can not get this person by phone but I am promised the right person will quickly respond. IPage has a slick site. Unfortunately they are also slick at avoiding problem resolution.
I had a different host before, and decided to change over to another due to constant problems and issues. My move to this host was easy and completed with minor tweaks to the site (common with any move). I have 8 websites, and all seem to run fine with this host. I haven’t had any problems overall with the sites functioning and being “up”.
My only complaints are their tech support, which is a complete hit or miss. You can either get a really good tech, or a one that just says.. its your problem or another companies problem (i.e. wordpress). There email services stink. I had set up a basic contactus email for each of my websites, and they do not work consistently. This results in missed business opportunities. So, I have had to use my internet service providers free email addresses to ensure proper service there. Overall, for the price its a good hosting service for basic blogs, websites, etc.
We were dissatisfied with iPage from day 1, but stuck with it hoping it would improve. It never did. Using the control panel is painfully slow; it takes FOREVER for all the folders to load (and the problem is NOT with my internet connection).
Their technical support is terrible; you ask a question and get complete gibberish for an answer. Finally, they “kicked us out” because our site was supposedly generating too many requests, and they would not give us any details or explanations. As far as I’m concerned, they stole our money. We’re just going to have to eat the loss and go with a reliable web host.
Well what can I say, haters gonna hate.
I have been using iPage from the day one I setup my website and I have no problem with the host at all. Everything it said on the website, iPage delivers. Great server stability, fast network, and full with useful addon features.
Sure their support is a little sloppy sometimes but hey you are paying less than $5 per month, I think a little wait time in the queue doesnt kill, right?
In overall, I think iPage is a go. I highly recommend the host to all budget seeker.
Useless bunch of lying morons…
I was looking to set up a website for our bar in China. The internet recommended ‘ipage’. I dropped Ipage a message and asked if there would be any server issues running a site in China. They said no. This was a lie.
I spent a week putting together the site, then published it. One problem that was immediately apparent was my inability to access it on the web. My chinese site was blocked in china…
I contacted Ipage who told me some cock and bull story about slow response times in asia. This was a lie. I showed them wikipedia’s ‘blocked sites in china’ that lists ‘most sites hosted on Ipage’. They said I would have to sort it out myself.
At this point I told them I wanted to cancel my account, have a full refund and keep possession of my domain name. They told me they would take 15$ off the refund because I had already registered the domain.
To sum it up I despise this company.
